I may be daydreaming reflecting on Katie and Brad’s ethereal winter wedding. White and bright, cold and grey but hospitable. Subtle cool tones. These are some of the adjectives I’d use to describe the campus of Notre Dame in winter. At least the campus on the kind of day that Katie and Brad had. It was beautiful to say the least. Warm enough we were able to film outside without gloves. But our ears and hands reminded us it was still winter after a half hour or so. Katie Whitcomb and I had a blast taking photos & filming while Katie & Brad did their part looking great and braving the cold. Kudos to them!
We began the day filming with Katie and her bridal crew getting glammed up at their suite in Hilton Garden Inn. We even got a few of Brad getting suited up with his bro’s. Then it was time for Katie’s big reveal with her father as they shared a first look moments before heading to the church. Their Basilica ceremony was beautiful. The priest shared a some memories from Katie’s time taking his “tree class”. Then he even shared some of Katie’s reflections from her time in class. He incorporated those reflections into their ceremony homily in a beautiful way. Their reception followed at the Gillespie conference center nearby which is perfect for large or intimate events such at theirs.
Their winter wedding film has certain attributes of heavenly grace and sublime beauty. Perhaps a good reflection of Katie and Brad’s married life together!

A micro wedding, mini wedding or minimony. Call it what you will the idea is pretty cool. It was a nice alternative for Melanie and Aj, the other option being to postpone their wedding day. Going mini meant they could still have the wedding ceremony of their dreams with their closest friends and family in attendance. They could plan it, live it, photograph it with Conforti Photo and of course Vibrant Productions to film it! And they could still host a big party later.
benefits of going mini
There are several benefits to a scaled back micro wedding. Who wants to narrow their guest list down to 30 or 40? Not many couples but it does mean a more intimate group. There’s a different atmosphere in a room of 40 than a room of 300. Fewer guests may mean more flexibility and there’s less pressure to impress extended family and social circles. Going micro shouldn’t necessarily mean going cheap. I like the way Melanie and AJ didn’t skimp on having the things they wanted. They had all the details of their choosing and it showed. Of course, mini weddings can also be a great money saver as many vendors and venues offer special rates for those asking. For example we offered them a modified ceremony only plan with half the usual coverage time and a shortened highlight film.
The day was all about Melanie and AJ and they enjoyed every minute together. There was lots of quality time spent and wonderful memories made. They incorporated a close friend to preside over the ceremony and included their two dogs in the procession. The weather cooperated and we were able to get some amazing footage with them outdoors. Their locations were The Hilton Garden Inn for prep and ceremony at The Sanctuary on Penn in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Molly and Adam’s vow renewal wedding was another story of triumph over adversity in the midst of a very goofy, disruptive wedding season. Molly and Adam were married in a scaled back ceremony on their original wedding day in May. We attended their second celebration including their vow renewal and reception at Trinity Banquet Hall later in September. It was a beautiful, fun wedding day which turned out perfectly. We had a great time filming alongside Soul Creations Photography, real professionals at their craft. Molly and Adam did just a couple of things differently with their ceremony being a vow renewal which was fun. See if you can spot them!
It’s hard to believe but Erica and Greg were high school sweethearts married after some nine years dating! They met in high school, attended Notre Dame together, graduated and began their careers together. All while maintaining a healthy relationship and deferring marriage until the time was right. Wow, that’s incredible!
I can’t imagine waiting 9 years to get married but due to shutdowns they had to wait even longer than planned. Their wedding was planned for spring and got postponed to late summer. fortunately we were free on their new date and could still film for them. Then just two weeks before their new wedding date the venue they were planning to host at had a big scare and mandatory lockdown go in effect. This left their wedding venue and guest hotel shuttered just two weeks prior to the event. Whelp, what terrible timing! But they didn’t give up and went to work on planning for the 3rd time!
With only 8 days to go before the wedding Erica’s mother aka (rockstar) wedding planner went into high gear searching out and booking a new venue. This included updates with vendors. Changing the lighting, food service, flowers and room design. Not to mention updating all the guests to accommodations! The university event professionals were so gracious and so helpful as always through it all. They assisted with free transportation and other services to help facilitate Erica and Greg’s location switch.
It was all such a big and challenging process Erica’s dad got emotional during his speech thanking the vendors. To which he quipped he’s probably the first fob to cry while thanking the vendor teams 🙂 Long story short Erica and Greg were able to have their day and hosted a really breathtaking wedding at Gillespie conference center. If you’re looking at the venue check out this other great film we did there for Molly & Jake!
We couldn’t have been more happy to be there for Erica & Greg to see their day unfold. It was a privilege to create a beautiful film to describe their wedding day. Congrats to you Erica and Greg you’ve come along way, from high school sweethearts to married professionals. We celebrate you guys!
