Composing Bryan and Kathryn’s wedding film was like putting together a puzzle picture! Bryan said during his vows that after their first date he knew a future love with Kathryn was inevitable. Kathryn replied that she couldn’t put adequately put words to her love, it was easier to describe it with moments or pictures if you will. Glances, laughs, winks, long hikes together etc.
I hope when you watch the video you will better understand that means. That’s what I love about making wedding films. It’s like painting a picture it starts very undefined and through the process of refining becomes a complete picture.
editing or composing?
I never know what direction the film or story may take until I arrive on the wedding day. I still don’t really know when the filming is done. The discovery mostly happens during the process of editing. I might say selection and arranging is a more appropriate description than editing. Editing sounds so mechanical and removed. When making a wedding film you have to compose the video. Like a music composer a good video editor must feel the work.
putting the pieces together!
With the help of God I take on the composition process with great care, a few ideas and a desire to achieve the best result. I take the many parts of the wedding day and piece them together until I see the puzzle completed. Bryan and Kathryn’s puzzle began from their first meeting or before in their life journey which prepared them for meeting. Our puzzle began with a hundred beautiful little pieces of video and memories from their wedding. Speeches and memories shared by family and friends. Things the couple shared in their own words. Pictures of them interacting, images of the things they chose to include in the day.
When I first met Bryan and Kathryn I could tell they were a lot of fun and I really enjoyed getting to know them. They hosted a beautiful wedding at Hidden Hollow Farm. Check out some other beautiful weddings we’ve filmed at wedding barn venues. Cheers to the the newlyweds!
It was a pleasure to create one of the sweetest wedding films for one of the sweetest couples Jacob and Annie! They came to us through another wonderful couple we filmed for years ago Sarah & Daniel. Throughout Jacob and Annie’s wedding day everyone around them were just so happy for them. It may have been a bit embarrassing but whenever they showed affection the whole party would start cheering and egging them on.
Jacob’s sister Mckenzie told a really sweet story about them at their reception. On a family vacation together Mckenzie and her sister observed the couple sitting on a dock overlooking a lake at sunset. According to her it was like a moment you see in the movies. She said and I quote “they were looking at one another kinda bashful then looking again doing that whole in love thing.” McKenzie then turned to her sister and said “if they don’t get married then there is no hope for anyone else!” Lol, as it turns out there is hope for the rest of us. It was at that exact same time Jacob and Annie were thinking the same thing. It was at that was the moment they knew they wanted to be married.
Isn’t that cool? It’s more than a coincidence but destiny. Jacob’s two sisters were witness to a life changing moment for their brother and Annie. Not only were they witnesses but they were taking part by thinking the same thing at the same time. So another thing we noticed is Jacob and Annie are not only one of the sweetest couples but a lot of fun! We had a blast filming portraits of them and their wedding party. It was a cold wintery day in December but we all braved the weather. Soul Creations wedding photography and I got great results filming their candid session. This because Jacob, Annie, us and wedding party forgot the cold and just had a great time! The results were stunning, fun beautiful shots to help create one of the sweetest wedding films.
We wrapped up the day with dinner, speeches and dancing. Then sent them on their way in a surprise getaway near the end of the reception. Our best to the new Mr. and Mrs Bohannon! Keep showing us a wonderful example of love. Continue to embody the beauty of love and life. Stay true to one another and keep the flame of your affection alive. And to Jacob’s sister. There is hope for all of us!
I love to hear a good love story, don’t you? After all, that is why we do what we do here at Vibrant. Cassidy and Bryon are blessed to have a timeless love story to tell their children someday. During the ceremony the minister did a beautiful job of telling their story and Bryon’s brother added more detail during his speech at the reception. Naturally, I tried to include as much of their story as I could in their feature film because their story is what made their union. Cassidy met Bryon while interning at his church in his hometown of Almo, Michigan. After they struck up a friendship and got to know one another Bryon wanted to ask Cassidy out but assumed she had already placed him in the dreaded friend zone! It wasn’t until Bryon’s brother and another influential person (who the minister jokingly referred to as “a prophet”) in his life encouraged him to just go ahead and ask her out. So he did. And of course the rest was history.
The wedding Film
This is where we come in. Bryon and Cassidy asked us to capture their wedding that took place at Cassidy’s home church Church at the Crossing in Indianapolis. They hosted family and friends during their reception at the beautiful Iron + Ember in Carmel. We had awesome weather for filming outdoors given it was in November. Having a fall wedding can be a risk but it was well worth it. There were still some colorful leaves on the trees and we had an incredibly warm day which made filming portraits and cocktails outdoors a delight.
We never grow tired of the opportunity to capture someone’s special day. Bryon and Cassidy – thank you for making our jobs easy! We wish you the best knowing your best is yet to come — cheers!
Sometimes the weather is just perfect and you have a blissful wedding day the likes of Lexi & Brocks! I can still recall the sweat at midday being outside flying my drone. But you know in September if it’s too warm in the afternoon it’s going to cool off just fine by evening for cocktails and dancing later. Add a little breeze and you have a picture perfect golden hour photo session. Ahh I’m getting sentimental just thinking about it.
While the weather is fun to talk it’s really the things you have control over that matter most. Things like selecting the right venue, vendors and making the day you! To really create a blissful wedding day you need to have vision. Rather than pulling together a hodgepodge of Pinterest ideas and hoping they work it’s best to have a unique plan and unified vision. Lexi’s dad mentioned in his speech that when they walked into the barn at St. Joe farm for the first time he didn’t have the vision:) When they saw it first it was winter. It was cold, dark and empty inside the barn. He said he couldn’t imagine how it would look and feel like a wedding space. But was he was blown away by the outcome on the wedding day. Thank goodness Lexi, her mother and their vendors had the vision and left no stone unturned as you can see in the film.
Lexi chose a lovely earth tone color palette of navy, cinnamon, orange and gold. This accented with their floral selections suited the venue and season well. The bridesmaids dresses were cinnamon orange which was a cool fall color. Lexi & Brock along with their wedding party did their wedding preparations at St. Joe Farm in an adjacent structure designated for a bride/groom suite. They hosted their wedding ceremony off site at St. Puis X Catholic Church. After the ceremony we returned to the farm for the cocktail hour, wedding photo and video candid session and the reception celebration.
St. Joe farm is really special for a number of reasons. One it’s a massive space that still feels intimate. It’s spacious overhead not interrupted by a loft. Most big barns have a loft or some kind of upper level which takes away from the spacious feel. It’s also an original wood structure at least 100 years old. In addition there’s plenty of unique spaces around the farm for your photography sessions. Having great photo settings is huge when you’re looking at a rural venue where you will likely be all day. So if you’re looking for a barn wedding venue with great photo locations that will host a large crowd it may be for you. After watching Lexi and Brocks film also check another fun wedding we filmed at the Farm!
