Sports Videography

It’s that time of year again – football season. Vibe Productions has been filming football games at Brebuef Jesuit School in Indianapolis, Ind.  at the request of one of the player’s father. The video is used for review and study of the games as well as for a keepsake (something to have after season and high school days are over to remember it all by).

Normally videos I produce are either a keepsake or an instructional-educational piece. But in this situation I will be filming something that has multiple purposes. This goes to show the versatile nature of video media, which really gets me thinking. Video is an excellent way to record very important events and create keepsake memories to treasure. But this is just one of very many purposes video serves. There is so many means by which videographers and filmmakers can express themselves. It’s a very exciting time to be a visual artist with the tools and variety of mediums available. There’s so many formats to work in such as documentary, music, sports, dance, movie’s, short films, promotion, advertising, educational, instructional and many more.

While at Vibe we focus primarily on documenting and producing events, we continue to explore the many other aspects of video production. We love to take on any new challenges our customers may have for us; no two projects are ever the same and should not be approached as such. Our company was built on the love for contemporary media and its power for visual storytelling and lord willing we will continue to produce and master new and better ways to create for and serve our clients in the future.

Concert Videographer

Vibe Productions will be filming this evening at the Boot City Opry in Terra Haute Indiana just a quick hour and a half trip from here in Indianapolis. We were requested for the gig by a couple who does unique musical productions and needs a demo for promotional use.

We plan to use three HD cams to cover the stage and will use shotgun microphones mounted on camera for sound. Usually I prefer a line feed however we have to record audio this way as the sound will be coming unmixed from the instruments. The nice thing about live sound is enhanced audience noise.

I’m sure it will be very entertaining. Check in later for video from the show!

Corporate Video

Recently Vibe Productions was hired by Signal Preferred of Mishawaka to film a corporate training video for Indianapolis based company Citizen’s Energy. The video concept is a one hour instructional video for the over 6,000 employees of Citizens Energy to view online. Content includes; How to prevent identity theft and education on the types of threats posed to web surfers such as Phishing, Trojan Horse Viruses, Spam, Mal-ware. ect.

We were able to film this with our canon SLR which made a really nice image of our speaker.

IU Bloomington campus wedding

This past weekend Vibe Productions filmed for Chelsey & Steven on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington. Chelsey and Steven are both recent graduates from IU, and are opening their own Chiropractic practice here in Indianapolis, Ind. With many friends and memories at IU they wanted to have their wedding on campus and did so in the Beck Chapel. The chapel was really neat and very cozy seating only about 5o people.

After the ceremony we followed a limo around college town to a couple of Chelsey and Steven’s favorite locations getting some great video shots in the process. This was the first wedding we’ve had the chance to work with our new Canon 5dmkii. It’s really amazing to see the video that comes out of that camera. We filmed select scenes with the canon especially in the dark chapel that look amazing. The rest of the day we filmed with our ever trusty Sony FX1 and FX7 in HD which do an amazing job as well.

The reception was at the Fields Clubhouse also in Bloomington, Ind. The clubhouse was made with rustic post and beam construction and is covered floor to ceiling with wood. We had a great meal and were able to film lots of great dancing and plenty of crazy interviews with friends of the couple! After the DJ called it a night the wedding party moved out to the lobby and continued the party with a live band. Steven and Chelsey know how to throw a great party.

Thanks Steven & Chelsey for including us in your special day and Larry (father of groom) for having us out! Best wishes for your future.

Creative Original vs. Business Driven

Posted in Vibe services, Wedding Tips, Weddings on August 10, 2010 by vibeproductions

At Vibe Productions in Indianapolis Ind. we’ve always worked hard to make quality and artistic integrity top priority. Being in a creative industry we don’t have any formula for doing the same thing over and over again and as fast as possible like the typical business model encourages. In fact I don’t want to know exactly how to go about a project when I begin it; I want each project to take on a life of its own so to speak. Approaching each project as a shooter and editor I make the best choices I can and incorporate things I’ve done in the past that work while trying new techniques that are appropriate to the given project.

Being a media artist I’m always working creatively and trying to understand the creative process. Creativity usually happens in a moment of inspiration that I believe is impossible to replicate or formulate exactly. It’s just something the artist has to allow themself the chance to do by foregoing the “safe approach.” This doesn’t mean never having a plan of action or not using proven methods, quite the opposite. Making great work whatever form it takes involves preparations, doing homework, thinking of possibilities and making a very conscious and thoughtful effort to do good work. When I’m doing a project the thing that drives me most besides a deadline is my ambition to do great work. I want to be original and do something the customer and I will both be proud of.

I believe there are a two types of video production companies. Those which are creative driven and offer a good service at a fair price. And those which are business driven charging as much as they can for a generic product (making it with a formula). I consider my business to be in the first category. Being an independent producer and having low overhead allows me to offer personalized productions at a very affordable cost lending my experience and talent to every film produced.

While searching for your wedding service providers I suggest you consider a company’s business structure (creative original or business driven) before booking.

Highlights from Burton Burke Wedding

We’ve been hard at work here in our Indianapolis studio on the Burton Burke wedding video lately and are close to wrapping up production on it. This video is a great example of a multiple camera wedding and a wedding with extras such as rehearsal dinner coverage and coverage of the girls at the salon. Sometimes bigger is better and in this case the saying is definitely true. This was a big event in many ways. Lots of things planned, tons of speaches, a large church ceremony and an elaborate large scale reception. Its only fitting the video is long and will be quite elaborate as well! Here’s the highlights from the day.

Band Videography

This past weekend I left Indianapolis and went to film a band playing in Niles, MI. It was a reunion concert for a band who hadn’t played together in a while and they pulled off a pretty good set. I filmed with a one camera set up and captured good sound with just a shotgun microphone. See what you think!

Burton-Burke wedding rehearsal

Posted in Vibe services, Wedding Tips on July 27, 2010 by vibeproductions

Wow, this wedding was a lot of fun and it shows in the video footage I’m putting together at the moment. One example is how the Burton family hired us to film the rehearsal dinner. We were able to capture some really funny and special moments on film that both families will enjoy watching. While I wouldn’t recommend having video at every rehearsal dinner, if you’re planning a big dinner with several toasts, gift giving and games like the Burton-Burke families did you should definitely have a videographer come out for it! If it’s special for you then it is special for us.

Abby & Mark’s Wedding

This past weekend was a really busy and exciting one for Vibe Productions. We left Indianapolis early Thursday morning to reach Pittsburg, Pennsylvania for Abby & Mark’s wedding Rehearsal..We had a great dinner that evening and were ready to go for the wedding Friday. This was the second time I’ve had the privilege to film in PA for the Stewart family as I’d been there for our friends Emily and Bill’s wedding several years earlier.

Abby’s mother Heidi booked our gold package which allowed us to film with Abby and the wedding party through the entire day, from doing hair and make-up to late night dancing. Being able to capture the entire day like that is really cool and will definitely add to the fun and documentary feel of the video.

The ceremony was outdoors at Stonebridge Farm nursery, a really beautiful outdoor wedding facility. The reception was at the Pittsburgh Marriott North, the atmosphere was class with cocktails in the lounge and an excellent dinner followed by dancing and great times for everyone.

Many congrats Mark & Abby and best wishes for your future. Thanks for asking us to film your wedding!

Dan & Heidi’s Michigan Wedding

This past weekend we had the privilege of filming for Dan & Heidi in Cassopolis MI. The wedding was at the grooms parents home out in the country, very private and picturesque. The ceremony was outside near the house and began with a really cool dancing procession! Watch out JK Wedding entrance (on YouTube) this one will be HD!

For the reception there was two large tents set up near each other, one for the open bar and one for dinner which worked great as people drinking could hang out near the bar and be out of the sun. We had a great time with the wedding party and were able to get some amazing video along with the photo team Vibe Photography from Ft. Wayne.

Thanks Dan & Heidi for having us film your special day.
