What a space! Natalie and Eric hosted their Journeyman Distillery wedding in Three Oaks, Michigan. We love Michigan weddings Journeyman is actually a distillery, restaurant and event venue all under one roof. The wedding and reception took place in Warren Hall one of three event spaces on the third floor. The upstairs event areas are full of natural light which are perfect for cinematography. Everything about the space was warm, inviting and full of character. The building space was originally the feather bone factory, a corset and buggy whip maker some 100 years ago and still bears old industrial remnants as reminders of that. The bottom floor of the space is the Staymaker restaurant, whiskey distillery and store. If you enjoy the sweet smell of hash brewing and the savory aroma of food on the grill you’ll love this place. I liked the chill vibe of the restaurant and whiskey bar with tasting tours going on. You might think a wedding wouldn’t want to share a building with a restaurant full of strangers but that’s kind of the culture of an up scale distillery. People, food and drink and social interaction. The Journeyman is known for it’s excellent whiskey and having special drinks & whiskey on site is a boon for many wedding guests.
Bride and groom got prepped on site, did their first look in an empty bar on the 1st floor. Then we went upstairs to the venue where we enjoyed their photo session in the Grainery. They had a beautiful ceremony right at sunset we could watch through the windows. Then it was a room flip from ceremony to reception while guests enjoyed cocktails nearby. Floral and event design by Snapdragon designs and Cyndi Basker from Celebrated Events. Guests enjoyed day of party favors, catering and drinks by Journeyman. A nice advantage of having a restaurant/distillery in house! The sights and sounds of Natalie and Eric’s wedding were absolutely lovely. We had a fantastic time seeing their event unfold in before our eyes and our cameras! Eric was a former professional soccer player and he and his friends put some of the energy and endurance required for soccer towards their dancing! It was a wild dance floor let me tell you.
From their first look when we arrived to getting down on the dance floor Natalie & Eric’s energy and chemistry together was amazing. Congrats to the new Mr and Mrs. Gehrig!
The right vows, rings, dresses and flowers, these are some of the keys wedding elements that make up a perfect day. There of course are many many more details for your average bride and groom to consider. Some things require much debate and research. Who to hire as your photographer and videographer? Check out this blog for advice finding your videographer! Will we have a planner? Who should we invite and when do we send those invites out?
This is why the words “wedding planning” sometimes bring with them some level fear and stress! But the most crucial element and one that shouldn’t bring much stress or need much debate I believe is the love the couple shares. Without that love all the other elements seem pretty silly don’t they?
Although every key wedding element of Matt and Lauren’s day was skillfully accounted for by Plum and Poppy resulting in a beautiful ceremony and reception. Their love for and appreciation of one another seemed to take center stage! From tears when they saw each other for the first time on the grand stairway of the Omni Hotel. To the kindness they showed one another in the small ways throughout the day. They clearly made one another the priority. So engaged couples when you’re working hard on your wedding lists and start to hit some stress buttons don’t forget to relax and remember the reason you’re doing this. Take some time to keep your relationship healthy, prioritize caring, kindness and love. Because these are the key wedding elements to your day!

There are often striking similarities between schedules and locations during our wedding season. This year we had two couples in back to back weekends get married at St. Louis De Montfort Church in Fishers, IN. I think it’s God’s way of telling us he has a plan!
The first couple we just posted about, Nora and Dan. The next was Molly and Zach! Molly and Zach are a joy to be around and had a truly amazing wedding day. The day started with some rain showers as we were filming the ladies getting ready. Molly said before meeting Zach she would’ve been totally freaking out about it but so much of her attitude toward life has changed since knowing Zach. His easygoing approach helps her not worry too much about the details! Not to mention she and Zach are serious golfers and a golfer never lets a little rain stop them! So they had fun and enjoyed every minute of the day.
I loved filming at Daniel’s Vineyard for the second time in as many years. It was perfect with it’s covered patios for guests to be indoors and venture outside to overlook the vineyards. The grand ballroom was nicely decked out and perfect for their large group.

It was a sweet kick off to married life for Catherine and Conor at Notre Dame this winter. Although it was winter the weather cooperated nicely! It was cool and cloudy, the light was perfect but they didn’t need help from the amazing sunlight to look great. They were able to do that on their own. They’re a beautiful couple!
Their ceremony was at the famous Basilica on campus and was very beautiful. The reception was hosted nearby at the historic Palais Royale one of our favorite large scale venues. Check out some of the many another amazing weddings we’ve filmed at Palais. The reception was full of amazing dances and speeches but one thing Catherine’s dad said really moved the room. “What do Conor and I have in common? 37 years ago I was standing at the alter of the Basilica waiting for those two medieval doors to open and I saw a vision. I saw a vision of strength, grace, intelligence with a smile as wide as the Mississippi and a heart and soul that are stronger. And from that day to this nothin changed. Conor three hours ago you saw the exact same thing. And because that apple didn’t fall far from that tree we have a bond that will never be broken.”
Nicely done Cath and Connor! Congrats on your kick off to married life! Beautiful. Cheers.
