Ashley & Philip :: Wedding at Palais Royale in South Bend

We’re proud to present a Blockbuster of a wedding film featuring Ashley & Philip! Everything including the weather came together for a truly remarkable day and we couldn’t have been happier to film for the couple.

It was also great to shoot along with our good friend Pat and his wife of Brownewell Photography. They achieved some truly awesome shots that were displayed during the reception! And of course the Palais Royale was in fabulous form for the occasion as it always is. If you’re getting married in Northern Indiana and interested in the grand ballroom style of banquet facilities the Palais is one of the best places around IMHO.

Well enough talking check out the film!

Holly + Ben :: Indianapolis wedding at Union Station

Wow, what a great time we had filming for Holly and Ben! They were energizing to work with and had a lot of fun.. we were so happy to have started out the 2012 season by being invited to film their all around awesome day.

One of the most memorable parts of the day was the excellent heartfelt toasts by family members to kick off the reception at the always fabulous Union Station in downtown Indy. For Holly and Ben’s feature film we edited together a compilation of the speaches and other highlights that you can see in short form in this trailer.

I hope you enjoy! Congrats Holly & Ben.

Promotional film for Photographer

Recently, I had the privilege of filming for Joanne Kaser of Josephiney Photography in the small town of Wakarusa, Ind. (near where I grew up) and where her studio is located. She does excellent work and we got acquainted while working together on a wedding shoot a couple years ago. This past fall she mentioned the idea of doing a video promo for her site but we were both busy so it didn’t become reality until just a couple of weeks ago, and I’m glad it did! We were fortunate to get an awesome day for shooting and a photogenic couple Joanne knows to model for us. After hitting several unique spots throughout town and in a small patch of woods nearby I can see how Wakarusa is where she loves to do photography.

I think the film will be a wonderful way for clients to get to know Joanne and see how she works in just a few minutes! We welcome any and all interested in creating a bio/promo for their business to contact us. And on a side note, check out our After Effects animation work on the butterfly. Enjoy!

Ashley & Craig :: {Indianapolis Wedding Filmmaker}

Ashley and Craig celebrated the end of 2011 and the start of 2012 with a bang by getting married! What a great way to start a life together!

Of course we celebrated the new year at midnight but the real celebration was for Ashley and Craig a truly wonderful couple with awesome friends and family. The day was cold, white and wintery as it should be allowing for some excellent outdoor filming with Driscoll Photography. Luckily there were some fireplaces to warm up by inside at the Purgatory Golf Club later.

Thanks Ashley and Craig for making us a welcome part of your wedding.

Canon 5D update

So apparently Canon has released it’s 3rd version of the outstanding Canon 5D line. The 5D Mark III on sale at B&H. Looking at the specs I’d say this presents nice improvements for documentary videographers like myself so maybe I’ll pick one up when they come down in price a bit. That being said I actually haven’t had a problem working around the few limitations the Mark II presents, but this update does look pretty sweet.

Press Release from Canon USA:

Canon U.S.A. Announces The Highly Anticipated EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR Camera

Featuring Improved Image Quality, a 61-Point High Density Reticular AF, Six fps High-Speed Continuous Shooting and Enhanced HD Video Recording Features

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., March 2, 2012 – EOS 5D Mark III Video: The Legacy Continues

The EOS 5D Mark II blazed the trail for EOS cameras and Canon to enter the professional video and cinema markets, paving the way for Canon’s recent introduction of the Cinema EOS system of cameras and lenses. Now, the EOS 5D Mark III continues Canon’s commitment to these new markets with new and requested features from cinematographers, television production professionals and independent filmmakers. This new model captures 1080p Full HD video at 24p (23.976), 25p, and 30p (29.97) fps; 720p HD recording at 60 (59.94) and 50 fps; and SD recording at 30 (29.97) and 25 fps, giving cinematographers and videographers more flexibility and options for video capture.

The EOS 5D Mark III includes new H.264 video compression formats to simplify and speed up post-production work: intraframe (ALL-I) compression for an editing-friendly format and interframe (IPB) compression for superior data storage efficiency, giving professionals options to help achieve their ideal workflow. Like the EOS-1D X, the 5D Mark III also includes two methods of SMPTE-compliant timecode embedding, Rec Run and Free Run, allowing video footage from multiple cameras and separate audio recordings to be synced together in post production.

The new full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5+ processor have enhanced the camera’s image processing performance over the 5D Mark II, significantly reducing moiré and color artifacts in scenes with horizontal lines.  The video footage produced will exhibit less moiré than seen in previous DSLR models, resulting in a significant improvement in HD video quality. Accommodating documentary filmmakers, and event videographers using EOS DSLR cameras, the 5D Mark III includes the ability to record video continuously up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds across multiple 4GB files.  Long-form filmmakers will enjoy the camera’s automatic file splitting in combination with the extended memory capacity offered by dual card slots.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III also includes manual audio level control with 64 levels, adjustable both before and during movie recording. There is also an automatic audio level setting, or sound recording can be turned off entirely. A wind filter is also included. Sound can be recorded either through the internal monaural microphone or via an optional external microphone through the stereo mic input. Notably, the EOS 5D Mark III is the first EOS Digital SLR to feature a built-in headphone jack for real-time audio monitoring during video capture.

Alyssa & Eric :: A white winter wedding

Of course every season adds special character to a wedding and I especially enjoy the soft light of late fall and winter weddings. Luckily the weather was mild for Alyssa & Eric’s day but being November and in Northern Indiana there was certainly a chill in the air so when I heard the song Keep Warm by Ingrid Michaelson I thought – perfect.

We had a great time getting shots of the couple with Jeanne from Vibe Photography at several awesome locations around the Blue Heron golf course.

Enjoy this film trailer!

SLR camera stabilization

Just picked up a new Zacuto Striker recently and can’t wait to shoot a project with it. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’d never used one but it’s incredibly sturdy and light. Also all the adjustments made it a quick fit to my shoulder. I know I’ll enjoy the added camera stability it offers and I’m sick and tired of taking a tripod into awkward areas! It’s a little expensive I guess but you have to pay for quality.

Libby & Joseph :: Highlights Film from St. Joe Michigan Wedding

From homemade wine in the groom’s suite and tying up the final bow on Libby’s dress, to walking on the sunny but chilly shore of Lake Michigan Libby and Joseph had a fantastic day to remember. Their destination wedding in St. Joseph, MI couldn’t have been any better conceived and matched the couple’s character and tastes perfectly. In my opinion Michigan in the fall has a certain mystique and beauty very unique to itself which we were happy to take advantage of with them and capture on film.

Enjoy this highlights from the day!

Kylie & Sam :: Wedding in Greenwood Indiana

Kylie and Sam were a very special couple to work with and of course we always enjoy working with their planners Deborah and crew of A touch of Elegance as they make the day go like clockwork.

This video is a departure from our past films as its one of our first Short Features or 15 minute edits whichever you want to call it. The idea isn’t new but has gained a lot of attention from brides and wedding videographers in recent years. When asked about the idea Kylie and Sam said sure do it so we did and can’t be happier with the results!

Congrats Sam and Kylie!
